Be Energy annonce sa sélection dans le cadre du programme européen FEDER 2021-2027 (Fonds pour une Transition Juste), porté par la Région Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, pour le déploiement du projet REGEN TRAIL.
Towards industrial and ecological sovereignty
As part of the 2021–2027 multiannual programming, the Just Transition Fund aims to support territories in transforming their economic models.
For Be Energy, this framework enables the scaling up of breakthrough circular economy solutions. The transition towards a sustainable, low-carbon economy has become a major challenge for our society, and for industrial actors, this transition is inseparable from natural resource management.
The REGEN TRAIL project, scheduled over a period of 24 months, addresses significant logistical and environmental challenges related to the management of industrial batteries and used oils.
Currently, when a battery reaches 70 to 80% of its capacity, it is often removed from its initial use. Conventional recycling channels, although useful, remain highly carbon-intensive. The critical raw material supply crisis highlights the limitations of these traditional methods, while the industrial lubricants market is subject to increasing regulatory constraints requiring a drastic reduction in disposal through combustion.
In response to these challenges, Be Energy has developed unique expertise in regeneration to secure access to resources and reduce the environmental impact of hazardous waste.
The Just Transition Fund (JTF) drives industrial regions towards carbon neutrality by financing their ecological transformation without compromising employment.
Innovation, technologie et acteurs stratégiques
The REGEN TRAIL programme implements the deployment of a mobile regeneration unit based in L’Arbois (Aix-en-Provence).
This solution enables direct intervention at client sites across the Bouches-du-Rhône region, an area characterised by high industrial density where hazardous waste treatment represents a major logistical challenge. This proximity significantly reduces the transport flows of heavy materials, thereby supporting the decarbonisation objectives of the local industry.
The project is structured around two operational components:
- R&D: Optimisation of the patented OilPlus® technology for large-scale oil treatment. This phase aims to refine a system capable of purifying used mineral oils molecule by molecule, while ensuring performance equivalent to that of new oil.
This component also includes the qualification of new in-line measurement sensors and the resolution of complex technical barriers.
- Industrialisation: Design of a unique mobile secure container, integrating all necessary regeneration equipment. This container, a fully autonomous production unit, incorporates electrical cabinets and generator sets, enabling full mobility for on-site operations.
From its launch, the project has benefited from the support of the Aix-Marseille Metropolitan Area, alongside major industrial stakeholders from the energy, maritime logistics, and high-tech sectors.
This initial commitment covers a cumulative volume of 140,000 litres of oil and 8,900 batteries, representing an estimated direct saving of 1,593 tonnes of CO₂ per year.
OilPlus® mobile regeneration unit: a cutting-edge solution for treating used oils as close as possible to industrial needs.
A driver of territorial development
Beyond its environmental footprint, REGEN TRAIL acts as a driver of local development through the gradual creation of 15 specialised jobs, structured around circular economy professions. These positions, accessible at various qualification levels, benefit from training programmes provided by the Regen Academy, an internal platform dedicated to regeneration professions.
The environmental impact is measurable: regeneration enables a carbon footprint reduction of up to 17 times for oils, and up to 50 times for batteries, compared to traditional replacement cycles. By embedding this rare expertise at the heart of the Provençal industrial ecosystem, Be Energy is not only innovating; the company is actively contributing to regional technological sovereignty while addressing critical challenges of responsible production and climate change mitigation.
This institutional support confirms the long-term establishment of our activities in the Bouches-du-Rhône region and our commitment to concretely supporting the decarbonisation objectives of French industry.
REGEN TRAIL is not only a technical project; it is a driver of local, sustainable and resilient growth, transforming industrial management in a lasting way for the benefit of the environment.
