Be Energy, winner of the 2017 Ontario Minister’s Award for Environmental Excellence

The recipients of the 2017 Ontario Minister’s Award for Environmental Excellence share a commitment to taking action to:

  • Reduce pollution
  • Combat climate change
  • Protect Ontario’s environment for generations to come.

To achieve this, the winners are working to:

  • Promote waste reduction and resource recovery by recycling computer components and using advanced battery recharging technologies;
  • Reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution through innovative energy-saving tools
  • Increasing energy efficiency in the construction sector;
  • Helping to prepare for the negative effects of climate change
  • Increasing the resilience of infrastructure and natural landscapes in cities.

These efforts support Ontario’s transition to a circular economy that reuses and diverts valuable materials from landfill, protecting the environment while creating new jobs and investment opportunities.

Efforts in line with Canadian government objectives

The efforts of these organisations and individuals also support the measures taken by the Canadian government to combat climate change. This includes capping pollution and investing the proceeds of the province’s carbon market in energy-saving programmes, for example. It also includes energy-efficient home renovations, incentives to switch to electric vehicles and new cycling infrastructure to help families, communities and businesses reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
Protecting our environment and fighting climate change are part of the Ontario region’s plan to create jobs, boost the economy and improve people’s daily lives.
Congratulations to Dharma MEETUND and Raju PENUMATCHA, who are ensuring the development of Batterie Plus technology in North America and INDIA!

« We celebrate the efforts of groups and individuals who are working hard to protect our environment and fight climate change. I hope the work of these environmental champions inspires others to become innovators and help protect Ontario’s environment for many generations to come. »
Glen Murray, Minister of the Environment and Action on Climate Change
