\nThe ANGELBAT project is part of France\u2019s national industrial innovation strategy and represents a total investment of \u20ac2.3 million over 24 months. Its objective is to fundamentally transform end-of-life management for lithium-ion batteries dedicated to micromobility (electric bikes, scooters, and e-scooters), a rapidly growing sector across Europe.\n<\/p>\n

\nToday, micromobility battery fleets face significant structural limitations.\n<\/p>\n

\nToo often directed toward premature recycling due to minor faults or localized performance degradation, thousands of batteries are destroyed while still retaining 75% to 90% of their usable capacity. In a context marked by dependence on Asian supply chains, pressure on critical raw materials, and industrial risks related to storage (more than 150 fire incidents recorded in end-of-life facilities in 2021), remanufacturing is emerging as a strategic, economic, and environmental alternative.\n<\/p>\n

\nThe France 2030 program aims to accelerate the emergence of a safer and more efficient circular economy by supporting the relocation of technologies and the preservation of critical resources.\n<\/p>\n

Be Energy<\/b>, as project coordinator, brings its internationally recognized expertise in the regeneration and reconditioning of industrial battery fleets.<\/p>\n

Alongside it, a software partner \u2014 a fast-growing startup now recognized as a sector reference \u2014 contributes advanced capabilities in big data analytics and predictive maintenance algorithms, with more than 10,000 batteries already under management.<\/p>\n

Finally, an academic partner with a leading regional university research laboratory provides high-level scientific expertise in diagnostics, failure prognosis, and artificial intelligence (AI).<\/p>\n

Three major technological breakthroughs<\/h2>\n

To effectively address current industrial challenges, the ANGELBAT project is structured around three major breakthrough innovations.<\/p>\n

  • The first is focused on Software R&D and AI<\/b>, developing multi-criteria optimization algorithms capable of determining in real time the best end-of-life scenario: continued use, remanufacturing<\/i>, repurposing, or recycling. In parallel, predictive models accurately estimate remaining useful life (RUL) at cell level.<\/li>\n
  • The second breakthrough takes the form of a hardware solution called \u201cOver-BMS\u201d<\/b>. This intelligent electronic overlay is directly integrated into batteries to collect previously unavailable operational data, enabling early fault detection and supporting a \u201clike-new\u201d warranty model.<\/li>\n
  • The third innovation is an inclusive and secure industrial workstation<\/b>, implemented through a next-generation remanufacturing line. Assisted by augmented reality and protected by automated thermal sensors, this workstation reduces labor costs by half while remaining fully accessible to workers with disabilities or in professional reintegration programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Strong impact for fleet operators<\/h3>\n

    Supported from its launch by a major national public postal and logistics operator (which alone replaces 25,000 batteries every 18 months for its workforce), the ANGELBAT solution directly addresses last-mile logistics fleets, shared mobility operators, and large-scale retailers.<\/p>\n

    The economic and environmental benefits are significant, delivering a twofold reduction in battery costs for operators and an environmental footprint up to 50 times lower than conventional shredding-based recycling processes.<\/p>\n

    \nBy 2030, Be Energy aims to establish a network of 8 lithium battery reconditioning centers<\/b> across national and European territories, located as close as possible to major urban battery streams.\n<\/p>\n
